Famous for its tree-climbing lions, large flocks of flamingos, and stunning location at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Ecosystem & vegetation
Diverse ecosystems including groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open grassland, swamps, and the alkaline lake. The Great Rift Valley escarpment forms a dramatic backdrop. Groundwater forest with mahogany and wild mango trees at the park entrance. Acacia woodlands dominate the drier areas. Lush vegetation supported by underground water sources from the escarpment.

Year-round destination; July to October and January to February best for wildlife
Getting there & practical
Access
Accessible by road from Arusha (2 hours). Located on the main route to Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Good tarmac road to park entrance.
