Trek through the lush montane rainforest belt of Kilimanjaro without committing to a full summit climb. The Marangu Route offers a well-maintained trail through a world of giant ferns, moss-draped trees, and endemic wildlife.
Morning
Drive from Arusha to Marangu Gate (2 hours). Register and meet your guide. Begin trekking through the rainforest zone, passing through towering tropical trees, giant ferns, and hanging moss. Spot blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and exotic birds.
Afternoon
Reach Mandara Hut (2,700m) for a packed lunch. Optional side hike to Maundi Crater for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and, on clear days, the Kibo peak. Begin descent through the rainforest.
Evening
Return to Marangu Gate and drive back to Arusha.
