Leaving Arusha after breakfast for Tarangire, about two and a half hours south. Tarangire in the dry season holds one of the densest elephant populations anywhere in Tanzania, drawn to the river, and its giant baobabs give the park a character all its own. A full day of game driving with a picnic lunch. In the late afternoon we climb into the Ngorongoro highlands and pitch camp at Simba, on the rim itself. Dinner is cooked in camp, and on a clear night you sleep with the crater below you.
