Matin
Morning safari briefing with the whole family — learn about animal behaviour, safety in the bush, and how to use binoculars. Drive to Arusha National Park gate (30 minutes from Arusha town). Begin a canoe safari on the alkaline Momela Lakes — paddle quietly among flamingos, hippos, and a variety of waterbirds. Children are captivated by the close encounters from the water.
Après-midi
Game drive through the park's savanna and forest zones. Spot giraffe, zebra, warthog, and Cape buffalo against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Meru. Drive to the edge of Ngurdoto Crater — called 'Africa's Little Ngorongoro' — for panoramic views down into the crater floor below. Watch black-and-white colobus monkeys leaping through the canopy above.
Soir
Return to your family-friendly lodge in the Arusha area for early dinner and a full briefing on the coming days. The children can share their wildlife journal drawings from the first day. Early bedtime as the big Tarangire days begin tomorrow.

Arusha NP is ideal for families — short drives, varied activities, and no long days in the vehicle. The canoe safari is a highlight for children. The park has no lions or leopards, making it a relaxed and safe introduction for younger children. Baboon encounters can happen at the lodge — follow staff guidance.
