Drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park for an afternoon of photography among the ancient baobab trees and the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. The Tarangire River at the dry-season low draws hundreds of elephants — the density and intimacy of encounters here is unrivalled anywhere in East Africa.

Matin
Morning departure from Arusha after briefing on the week's photography goals, camera settings for the Tanzanian light, and vehicle positioning protocols. Drive to Tarangire (2.5 hours). Brief stop at the park gate to plan the afternoon photography circuit.
Après-midi
Enter the park for an extended afternoon photography session. Position along the Tarangire River bank for elephant family group portraits, behavioural shots of elephants drinking and bathing, and the iconic juxtaposition of elephants with ancient baobab trees. Seek high perches on kopje outcrops for wide-angle landscape compositions.
Soir
Drive to your ultra-luxury tented camp — positioned inside the park for full night sounds and immersive atmosphere. Post-photography debrief and image review session. Gourmet dinner under a canvas sky, listening to the distant sounds of the African bush.
FauneAfrican elephant (largest concentrations in northern Tanzania — 3,000+ individuals), lion, leopard, cheetah, Maasai giraffe, plains zebra, wildebeest, fringe-eared oryx, lesser kudu, over 550 bird species including spectacular lilac-breasted rollers
PaysagesAncient baobab trees 1,000+ years old in golden afternoon light, Tarangire River valley from above and below, termite-mound dotted savanna plains, Masai Steppe panorama to the east, swamp areas with dense bird concentrations
Tarangire afternoon light is exceptional — the golden hour starts early here as the sun drops toward the Rift Valley. Position at the river at least 90 minutes before sunset. Elephants at the river work best with a low camera angle — ask your driver to position creatively. Pack a 70-200mm and a wide-angle lens for the baobab landscapes.
